spring update

I apologize for the extreme lack of updates. But the thing about this blog is I do it for fun, so I never want to feel like I HAVE to make a new post. I've been pretty busy with school, but I haven't forgotten about my love for fashion. Basically, I am so sick of this cold and rainy weather. I have been dressing down lately because I am ready for winter to be over! I held off looking at the spring shows when they actually occurred in Fall 2007, but lately they are all I can think about. I don't want to get into all the shows because that would take forever, but I will mention two of the shows that are inspiring me the most at the moment.

First would be Alexander Wang, whose Spring 08 and Fall 08 shows were styled by model/muse Erin Wasson. I definitely see her influence in the clothing, which has a "model off duty" vibe. My favorite look opened the show, it was a threadbare white t-shirt paired with a oversized "boyfriend" blazer and a pair of beat up denim shorts. I already have a blazer and similar shorts, but I am still looking for the elusive perfect white t-shirt which is surprisingly hard to find. I also liked the pairing of a grey slouchy tee with a more structured khaki skirt. I don't know if I would necessarily purchase a khaki skirt, but I have a similar tee from American Apparel and it would be interesting to pair it with something structured. The model also wore it with a pair of black patent cutout booties, but I am kind of against wearing heels at school. The look here is incredibly casual so I would feel a bit weird. Knee high boots is about as fancy as it gets. I also loved this boxy cropped trench one girl was wearing. It makes me really want a trench for spring, but I'm not sure where I would look. I liked the look of one in GAP, but the material was much to heavy for me.

Speaking of jackets, I am absolutely psyched to wear them this spring. I have a French Connection cotton swing coat I purchased recently that I love. I also have a shrunken black leather jacket that I bought on sale from Newport News of all places. I can definitely imagine pairing the jacket with a white eyelet dress. I also want to get a super soft and shrunken denim jacket. (Oh before I forget to mention I loved the models' easy, wavy hair at Alex's show).

Ok the next show I want to mention was Frida Giannini for Gucci. I thought the show was really modern and quite dark, considering it was a Spring/Summer show. I loved the dramatic eye makeup and they had the PERFECT leather jackets (as seen on Freja Beha). I also liked the use of plaid, as well as the black and white palette with splashes of yellow and pink.
Hmm, so other things for spring...I am excited for shoes! I bought a pair of black gladiator sandals, I must say they are pretty intense. I'm a little worried about them making me appear stumpy so I feel like I will have to pair them with shorts and little dresses. I am also excited for flat sandals. My dream sandal would be a black thick leather t-strap, which I feel is the ultimate chic statement. I also want to wear knee high socks (I got two great pairs at target, they are soft and cottony yet nice and thin) during that transition between cold and warm weather. I am imagining them with oxfords and shorts (or a dress), but I am still figuring it out. I suppose that's all for now. Sorry for writing a book! I hope you are as ready as I am for Spring.

By the way, this post was rather spur of the moment. I saw Afia had mentioned we hadn't been updating. As a result there are probably many errors writing wise (because I am the queen of all things awkward). I am going to edit this later. Maybe.
